Pathologies treated The Medical Biology Laboratory at the Centre Hospitalier Princesse Grace is a multidisciplinary lab which covers the main medical biology activities, namely:

  • Haematology
  • Coagulation
  • Specialist haemostasis (haemorrhages and thromboses)
  • Biochemistry
  • Hormonology including fertility testing
  • Infectious serologies
  • Microbiology (bacteriology, parasitology and mycology)
  • Identification of bladder stones
  • Identification of blood and medullary cells by flow cytometry
  • Molecular biology (HIV viral load)
  • Water and environmental analysis

Certain tests not carried out on-site are sent to qualified contacts and specialist labs.

All tests performed in the laboratory are available in the sampling manual.

 

The laboratory is accredited in accordance with standard NF EN ISO 15189 Accréditation COFRAC Examens médicaux n°8-4254 (Scope available on www.cofrac.fr).

The laboratory does not authorise the use of the COFRAC mark by its customers.

Consultations The biology laboratory takes blood and other samples, on basement level 1 of the building (floor -1).

For confidentiality reasons, results cannot be given by phone, fax or email.

Results can be posted to your home address, in a stamped envelope or via the patient portal. Please ask for more information about delivery delays, which vary depending on the tests requested and about how to set up the patient portal.

If you would like to collect your results directly from the lab, please indicate your preference when registering or having your sample taken.  You will be handed a card with your ID to be shown to our secretaries or entrusted to a third party to collect your results for you, after signing the card to grant them power of attorney.

N.B. Some tests are not reimbursed by social security health insurance. Our secretaries will provide you with more information.

Activities Handling requests for biological tests from hospital departments, A&E and outpatients and other laboratories in the region.

The laboratory attaches great importance to the quality of its services and to ensuring full satisfaction for patients, prescribers, its correspondents and the administrative authorities with which it works.

  • Welcoming patients and taking samples on-site by qualified nursing staff.
  • Providing information on the conditions required for taking samples and conducting tests. Make online version available of the sampling manual.

No appointment necessary. Equipment and advice provided by the lab. Sample taken on-site or at home, depending on analysis requested.

  • Children under 10

By appointment
For the child’s comfort, a local anaesthetic (sold in pharmacies) in the form of a patch or cream may be administered one hour before the sample is taken. If in doubt, contact us.

  • Semen analysis, semen cytogram: By appointment.

Certain analyses nonetheless require samples to be taken in special conditions. Do not hesitate to contact our medical secretaries. Remember to have your medical prescription to hand.

  • Platelet aggregation test: by appointment
  • Haemophilia test: by appointment

DO I NEED TO FAST BEFOREHAND?

As a precaution, it is preferable to fast before any blood test.

Conditions for fasting
You must not have eaten in the last 12 hours. You may drink a glass of water or a cup of tea without sugar.

Fasting is mandatory for the following tests:
Glycaemia (blood sugar)
Lipid profile: Cholesterol, HDLCholesterol, LDL Cholesterol, Triglycerides, apolipoprotein A, apolipoprotein B.
Crosslaps serum – Folates

** If you are on medication and the blood test is not intended to determine the dosage of your medication, you may take your treatment.
